BargainBox is a South African pawn-shop and e-commerce retailer selling a wide selection of new items and second-hand items, including electronics, tools, musical instruments, home entertainment products, and other discounted merchandise. 1. Product condition: new, used, and voetstoots items
BargainBox sells both new and second-hand products. Product listings, labels, descriptions, images, or communications may indicate whether an item is new, used, second-hand, refurbished, repaired, open-box, clearance, pawn-stock, or voetstoots.
A voetstoots item is sold as-is in its existing condition. Unless we expressly state otherwise in writing, voetstoots items do not carry a BargainBox guarantee or warranty. Customers are encouraged to inspect products carefully, ask questions, and confirm suitability before purchasing.
Although voetstoots items are sold as-is, BargainBox aims to act fairly and transparently. We test second-hand and voetstoots items before sale and only offer them for sale where they are working at the time of testing, unless a specific defect or limitation is clearly disclosed. The fact that an item is sold voetstoots means that normal wear and tear, cosmetic marks, age-related deterioration, missing accessories, limited battery life, previous use, or disclosed defects may be present and are accepted by the customer as part of the purchase.
2. Product information and availability
We try to ensure that product descriptions, prices, images, stock availability, and specifications are accurate and up to date. However, product images may be for display purposes, colours may differ slightly, and stock availability may change quickly because many second-hand items are unique or limited in quantity.
A product placed in your cart is not reserved until your order is accepted and payment is confirmed. If an item becomes unavailable after you place an order, we will notify you and arrange a refund, replacement option, store credit, or another suitable resolution where applicable.
3. Pricing and payment
All prices are displayed in South African Rand unless otherwise stated. Prices may change without notice, but confirmed orders will be processed at the price displayed at the time of order confirmation, unless there is an obvious error. We reserve the right to correct pricing, stock, or description errors before accepting or fulfilling an order.
Payment must be made using the payment methods offered on the website or accepted in-store. Orders may be processed only once payment has been successfully received or verified. Where a payment is reversed, declined, fraudulent, or not completed, BargainBox may cancel the order.
4. Orders, collection, and delivery
Orders are subject to acceptance by BargainBox. We may refuse, cancel, or limit an order where stock is unavailable, payment is not verified, fraud is suspected, the product was incorrectly listed, or fulfilment is not reasonably possible.
Where delivery is offered, delivery times are estimates and may depend on courier availability, customer location, payment confirmation, and product readiness. Customers are responsible for providing accurate delivery details. Where collection is arranged, the customer may be required to provide proof of purchase, identification, or order confirmation before goods are released.
5. Returns, refunds, exchanges, and cancellations
Returns, refunds, exchanges, and cancellations are handled in line with South African consumer law, the nature of the product, and the condition in which the product was sold. Customers must contact BargainBox as soon as possible if there is a problem with a product or order.
New products may carry a supplier, manufacturer, or statutory warranty where applicable. Second-hand products may have limited warranty rights depending on the product, the disclosure made at the time of sale, and applicable law. Voetstoots items are sold as-is and, unless expressly stated otherwise in writing, do not carry a BargainBox guarantee or warranty.

6. Inspection and customer responsibility
Customers are responsible for checking product descriptions, prices, sizes, compatibility, accessories, power requirements, item condition, and suitability before purchasing. This is especially important for second-hand, once-off, pawn-stock, and voetstoots items.
Where the customer has inspected the product, tested the product, or had an opportunity to inspect and ask questions before purchase, the customer confirms that they are satisfied with the condition of the item and accept any disclosed limitations.
7. Warranties and guarantees
No statement on the website should be interpreted as a guarantee or warranty unless it is clearly stated as such in writing. Manufacturer warranties, supplier warranties, or repair warranties may apply to certain products and may be subject to the relevant third party’s terms.
BargainBox does not provide a warranty for damage caused by misuse, negligence, incorrect installation, power surges, unauthorised repair, modification, liquid damage, physical damage, normal wear and tear, consumable parts, batteries, accessories, or use outside the product’s intended purpose. Voetstoots items are excluded from any BargainBox guarantee or warranty unless we expressly agree otherwise in writing.
8. Website use
You may use our website only for lawful purposes. You may not misuse the website, attempt to gain unauthorised access, interfere with security features, upload harmful code, scrape content without permission, impersonate another person, submit false information, or use the website in a way that disrupts our business or other users.
We may suspend or restrict access to the website where we reasonably believe there has been misuse, fraud, abuse, or a breach of these Terms and Conditions.
9. Intellectual property
All website content, including text, images, logos, product photos, and design elements, is the property of BargainBox or its licensors and is protected by South African and international intellectual property laws. You may not use, copy, or distribute our content for commercial purposes without our written permission.
10. Liability
To the extent permitted by South African law, BargainBox is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the website or products purchased from us. Our total liability for any claim related to a product or service will not exceed the amount paid for that product or service.
11. Governing law
These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction of the South African courts.
